The Maine Occupational Therapy Association is a non-profit organization which represents occupational therapy practitioners throughout Maine. The organization was founded in 1976 and incorporated in 1990. The Maine Occupational Therapy Association is committed to the fostering of continued competence of occupational therapy practitioners, to serve as a state resource, to further the practice of occupational therapy through research and study and to have an impact on the legislative, medical and reimbursement communities as consumer and professional advocates.

IMPORTANT MAINECARE UPDATE 5/8/2012
Calling all MeOTA members:
As you know, the appropriations committee has been working on another supplemental budget for DHHS since the legislature went home last month. The legislature is scheduled to return to take up that budget on Tuesday, May 15th. The Appropriations Committee will have to make some decisions in a very short time frame.
The Governor's office has just circulated a list of recommendations which includes the elimination of OT services for MaineCare recipients (not children). It is unclear whether the Committee members will embrace these recommendations, but a committee decision is likely as soon as Thursday, May 10th.
I urge you to take immediate action. Please call or email members of the Appropriations Committee to urge that the elimination be rejected, and what harm doing so would cause clients, now and in the future.

Positions Open in MeOTA – Join in the advocacy, networking and fun!!
The Executive Board is a supportive and open group, dedicated to bringing together member practitioners in Maine, education, and advocating effectively for our profession. CONTACT Carrie Beals, President with any questions or interest: Caroline.Beals@gmail.com
COTA Representative
Purpose: Connect with your OTA practitioner peers. Represent your collective practice interests to the MeOTA Executive Board.
Requirements: Stay in contact with your OTA therapy practice peers on a regular basis (at least quarterly). Attend MeOTA Executive Board meetings every other month- in person or via on-line access (Go To Meeting).
MeOTA Conference Committee Members
Purpose: MeOTA sponsors two 1-2 day conferences per year. Each conference committee is made up of members who take on various tasks around creating and implementing the conference.
Requirements: Willingness to take on and complete specific tasks within a group focused on completion of a professional OT conference. Brochures, registration, speaker and vendor liaison, introducing speakers, etc. Regular meetings every 2-4 weeks --- 2-3 closer to the conference day.

Leadership and MeOTA
Interested in LEADERSHIP and want to learn more, hone your skills, and explore different styles? MeOTA wants to help create more leaders in our profession in Maine. MeOTA is working on a free Leadership Module to offer practitioners over the next year, but we need to know the interest level. Spread the word!
